This year the Indiana State Fair had 634 entries into the professional art exhibition. Jurors selected 444 pieces for the show's exhibit. I was excited to have three of my paintings accepted into the show... and very honored to receive Honorable Mention on "Angel of Grace" in the Mixed Media class! I was also happy to see the angel painting had one of the best hangings in the show (the placement or location of the art), perfectly centered on the main wall with a spotlight shining down onto her face. I couldn't be happier (well, okay... if someone purchases her or one of my other paintings in the show, I will be over-the-moon)!
Dale and I went to the exhibitor's open house on Thursday and had a great time. It was fun to see so many friends and family members, many of whom were also juried into the show and won awards. My mother, Shirley Despot, had two paintings accepted, plus two pieces of pottery, both of which won Honorable Mentions. My oldest daughter, Monica Sanchez got her large Aztec painting in the show and also won 2nd Place on her wallhanging quilt!
If you happen to live in or around central Indiana and plan on attending the fair this year, please stop by the Home & Family Arts Building to view the show. There are so many beautiful pieces of art on display and for sale.... watercolors, ois, acrylic, mixed-media, drawings, pastels, pottery, sculpture, woodworking, handpainted scarves and china, handcrafted jewelry, quilts, photography, and more. The state fair runs from August 3rd thru August 19th this year, so there's plenty of time to see it all!
